For many deep-tech start-ups and scale-ups, the U.K. represents a strategic gateway to international markets, offering access to a large customer base, mature capital markets and a globally connected innovation ecosystem. However, successful expansion requires a clear understanding of local market dynamics, regulatory considerations and investor expectations.
The online session held on 22 January, was delivered by Jeanette Carlsson (Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Tech Nordic Advocates and Head of Europe at Global Tech Advocates), Chris McGahan, (Western Europe and the Nordics, Primary Markets, London Stock Exchange Group) and Paul Webber (Head of EU Affairs at Tech Nordic Advocates), sharing practical insights drawn from their work with international technology companies seeking to enter, expand and raise capital in the U.K. market.
This Educational Session addressed these challenges by outlining practical pathways to establish a presence in the U.K., scale operations and prepare for private funding rounds, with a focus on reducing market entry risks and improving investment readiness.

The UK Market Access programme available through the EIC Service Catalogue supports start-ups in understanding the U.K. market landscape, defining appropriate entry strategies, and preparing for expansion and fundraising. The programme combines guidance, access to local networks, and support for engaging with investors and relevant ecosystem stakeholders. Through EIC ACCESS+, eligible EIC Awardees and Seal of Excellence holders can access the programme with co-funding support.
The EIC ACCESS+ educational sessions are part of a broader effort to offer a practical and value-driven format to help EIC Awardees and Seal of Excellence holders navigate their most common challenges. Each session is led by experienced EIC Ecosystem Partners who share use cases, expert guidance, and actionable tools drawn from their service offerings. The aim is to help beneficiaries better understand the specialised support available within the EIC Service Catalogue, make informed decisions based on their needs and maturity level, and build meaningful connections supported by the EIC ACCESS+ initiative.
